Pass the Hat

PASSTHEHAT

Leave when you want.

One host opens a round and names the payee up front. Guests chip in native BOT until the host settles, and any guest can pull their full remaining pledge back out while the round is still open.

Open a round

Chip in / pull out

Exit: Pull out returns your full remaining pledge while the round is open. After settle, it reverts and the pot goes to the recorded payee.

Why pass a hat on-chain

Splitting a bill over chat means one person fronts the money and then chases five people for a week. Pass the Hat turns that into a single open round: the host writes the payee and a short note, and everyone sees the same pot grow as people chip in.

The important part is the exit. Your chip stays your chip until the host settles — Pull out returns the full remaining pledge to the wallet that made it. The payee is fixed when the round opens and settle only ever pays that address.

How the hat works

Open

The host opens a round with the payee address and a note of up to 120 characters.

An embroidered cap held as a museum object

Chip in

Guests send any positive amount of native BOT. Multiple chip-ins from the same wallet add up.

Apples shared across a table

Pull out

While the round is open, Pull out returns that wallet’s full remaining pledge — not someone else’s.

Settle

Only the host can settle, and it always pays the recorded payee. An empty round just closes.

Who it’s for

A small felt hat laid flat

Anyone who ends up holding the bill · a dinner table of six · a studio kitty · a birthday pot · a send-off · a trip paid from one place · a treasurer taking dues for a named account

Ask before you chip

Can I get my money back?

Yes, while the round is open. Pull out returns your full remaining pledge. After settle it reverts and the pot goes to the recorded payee.

Can the host change who gets paid?

No. The payee is set when the round opens and cannot be swapped. Settle always pays that address.

What does the host control?

Opening the round and calling settle. The host cannot pull a guest’s pledge or send the pot anywhere else.

What does it cost?

Gas only. The contract takes no cut. BOT Chain mainnet, chain id 677.

Where does my BOT sit?

In the contract, tracked against your wallet, until you pull out or the host settles.

Which network?

BOT Chain mainnet, native BOT. Check any round on scan.botchain.ai.

Roadmap

Now — open, chip in, pull out, and host-only settle are live on BOT Chain mainnet.

Next — a round page that lists every chip-in and pull-out against the named payee.

Later — a shareable round link that carries the note and payee.

Beyond — keep the contract small and the exit path unchanged. No admin controls over the pot.

Name the payee, open the round, and let the table chip in. If plans change, pull your pledge back before settle.

Ready to pass it?

The pull-out sits on the ticket, not buried.
